Musanze-Police in Kinigi sector, Musanze District are holding three traders who allegedly broke into a shop and stole property worth Rwf4 m.

The suspects, identified as J Pierre Buhinja, Damascene Harerimana and Janvier Bisengimana, who confessed to the crime, are also accused of later setting ablaze  the premises they are alleged to have broken into for the purposes of concealing  evidence.

Residents woke in the wee hours of the night to put out the fire, before spreading to other shops in Kinigi market.

The tearful shop owner, David Niyonzima, reported that his close neighbour and one of the suspects had previously borrowed his keys and suspected to have duplicated them before they broke into the shop.

"We have so far recovered property worth Rwf700,000 from the suspects. Having started working in this market in 1998 with only Rwf1m, my business has accumulated up to Rwf5m as capital.

I need to know where they hid other products, ’’Niyonzima said, as he collected the charred mattresses.
Niyonzima said he reported the matter to police after his neighbour, Buhinja, confessed and pinned his friends.

The District Police Commander, Supt. Vincent Kamanzi, appealed to residents to be more vigilant and report suspicious cases.

Kamanzi said: "We are encouraging residents to work with the community policing committees and other security organs to ensure security for themselves and property.’’
