Editor,

I am writing in reference to an article titled, "mothers to benefit from birth kits” that appeared in yesterday’s issue of The New Times.

I would like to appreciate the efforts made by the Birth Kit Foundation Australia (BKFA) to supply birth kits to expectant mothers in remote areas.

While the government has done well to encourage mothers to give birth in clinics, there are situations where that may not be possible. This has put the lives of the mother and child at risk. But with the kits, the lives will be saved.

Once the kits are available, people should be trained on using them and also repeatedly reminded that the kits are not an alternative to giving birth in clinics.
