KIGALI - The president of the Senate, Dr Vincent Biruta, yesterday met the Egyptian Ambassador to Rwanda, Khaled Abdel Rahman to discuss bilateral cooperation between both countries.

According to a statement from Parliament, Rahman  paid a courtesy call on Biruta, seven months into his position as the Egyptian envoy to Rwanda.

Both officials agreed to cement the existing bilateral cooperation between the two countries during the envoy’s tenure in Rwanda.

Biruta promised Rahman that the Parliament would cooperate with him on all aspects during his stay.

The Egyptian envoy and Biruta exchanged views on several government programmes such as agriculture, tourism, electricity among others.

Rahman noted the cooperation and the sharing of Nile waters between Egypt and other African countries acknowledging that, once in a while, there will be some disagreements on projects and programmes of the Nile waters.

Egypt and a number of upstream countries that include Rwanda, have constantly disagreed on the equitable sharing of the Nile waters, with downstream countries; Egypt and Sudan, demanding the lion’s share.
