Editor,

We all know that the churches were the favoured killing grounds during the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi and both priests and nuns played a key role.

Some priests and nuns stood by as their followers were butchered. Others directly participated in the killings.
It was clear then that the church was a sanctuary of evil.  Obviously, this was a wrong assumption. Which brings me to Wednesday, May 4 event.

I had the privilege to meet General Romeo Dallaire and listen to him speak at a Catholic church conference here in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada.

When he speaks of Rwanda, it is very obvious that it comes right from his heart and you vividly realise the emotion on his face.  He made no apology when he spoke of the Catholic Church’s role in the genocide.
As he did so, you could have heard a pin drop in the audience of over 700 spectators!

I wanted to jump up and cheer! As always, I will continue to support and love Rwanda and her incredible people!  And one day, I will call Rwanda my home!
