Title Holders TP Mazembe of DR Congo will appeal against their exclusion from the Champions League.

The Confederation of African Football (Caf) disqualified them after Tanzania’s Simba complained about the eligibility of Janvier Besala Bokungu.

Mazembe’s owner, Moise Katumbi, denied any wrongdoing and confirmed his club would appeal.

"We’re very surprised to see Mazembe has been disqualified, we know our administration is very clean,” he said. Mazembe beat Simba 6-3 on aggregate in the second round of the tournament.

Simba will play Morocco’s Wydad Casablanca, who lost to Mazembe in the third round, for a spot in the group stages of the tournament event.

Togo stun Nigeria to win Wafu Cup  Togo beat favourites Nigeria 3-2 to win the West African Football Union (Wafu) Cup in Abeokuta on Saturday. Atakora Lalawele scored twice and set up another to steer the Hawks to the victory over the home side.

Togo raced into the lead on two minutes when Lalawele’s header beat Nigeria goalkeeper Sunday Rotimi.

The Hawks extended their lead in the 20th minute with Wome Senome finishing off a move started by Lalawele.
Caf hands tough bans on clubs. The Confederation of African Football (Caf) has banned three clubs for withdrawing from continental club competitions.

Highlanders of Zimbabwe, Township Rollers of Botswana and Chad’s Tourbillon were all banned for three years each.
However, Etoile du Sahel of Tunisia escaped punishment for a similar offence. Caf slapped the bans on the three clubs in accordance with its regulations.
