Dictionary meaning of the word,” smile”, is-to form one’s features into an amused, pleasant or friendly expression, with corners of mouth turned up. Smile is an expression that is loved by most of the people world over. It cuts across barriers of cultures, nationality, language or religion.

A smile is an   action that is   recognized by all from a young child to an adult. Dictionary meaning of the word,” smile”, is-to form one’s features into an amused, pleasant or friendly expression, with corners of mouth turned up.

Smile is an expression that is loved by most of the people world over. It cuts across barriers of cultures, nationality, language or religion.

It is universally accepted as a gesture of friendliness. If one analyses the word,’ SMILE’, it conveys so many things”.

S”-conveys a smile and also sweetness, "M”, stands for magnificence and mercy, "I”, indicates how one’s face gets illuminated while smiling,” L”, shows that it is a precursor for laughter and, "E”, stands for enjoyment.

It is a fact.  One or more or all of these qualities are conveyed by an individual just by smiling.

 Smile is also a gesture which conveys friendliness.  One sees   a person smiling and automatically feels drawn to that person in a positive way. 

While walking on the road, if a passerby, even a stranger just smiles and waves at you, you feel good and would remember that face even in a crowd.  On the other hand somebody just passing by without any positive gesture usually would pass on unnoticed.

Forgiveness is also motivated by a smile. In case of a dispute, nobody can be angry    with a person smiling patiently, for a long time.

Even if the person angry with him does not relent, onlookers will surely intervene and come in his support.

A smile also enhances the beauty of an individual. Anybody looks beautiful   while smiling. In fact the face   and entire being seems to be lit up, when one is smiling.

In contrast, even a very beautiful   man or woman   looks ugly while scowling or frowning.

Smiling adds to the personality of a person and enhances it in a positive way. 

In any gathering, one who is smiling looks more self confident than others, who look anxious or depressed or tense.

When one smiles, it gives signal to all around him that all is fine with him and he is happy and contented. He can also make other people around him to smile as well, because a wholehearted smile is contagious at all times.

It shall change the mood of somebody feeling miserable and make him feel happy and optimistic about solving his problems.

The act of smiling is also beneficial for one’s physical as well as mental health. When one is smiling, he or she is relaxed mentally, thus feeling calm.

Due to mental relaxation, the level of catecholamines (neurochemicals that increase heart rate and blood pressure) is reduced in the body.

Thus stress related problems like hypertension, diabetes, and e.t.c., are   prevented or better controlled.

There is an old saying; if you smile the world will smile with you, if you cry nobody will cry with you. This holds true even today.

A person who is always smiling has more friends as compared to one who is sullen.

Smiling has so many advantages and harm none whatsoever for any person. It is a God given quality available free of cost. Nobody has to pay a single penny for smiling.

If one looks up the synonymous words for, "smile”, in a dictionary, one would come across words like joy, cheerful, happy, e.t.c. all positive words which make a person feel good.

One can have all positive feelings and a good health just by cultivating the good habit of smiling more.

Those who are already into smiling should keep up their good habit. What a wonderful place the world would become if all are smiling and happy all the time.
