Beauty: A season of florals

Floral patterns are back in the season! Whether it’s a floral dress, a top or even a pair of shoes they should be worn in style. A few years ago floral patterns were the inn thing for a while in the eighties. Floral patterns are back in the season! Whether it’s a floral dress, a top or even a pair of shoes they should be worn in style. A few years ago floral patterns were the inn thing for a while in the eighties.

Because I was in love with the colours and flower patterns on the clothes each time I would go to church I would always stare at the ladies who wore them.

Then one afternoon the opportunity showed itself when my mother took us for shopping at one of the most exclusive shops in town those years called Deacons which is a South African clothing store and has the best clothes you can ever find in Africa.

As my two elder sisters were fidgeting not knowing what to choose with their eyes wide open, I walked to the counter and asked the lady about any new arrivals, she was shocked, but took me in a corner where she showed me all these beautiful floral dresses.

I was spoilt by choice, but ended picking up one full floral dress and a short sleeved floral blouse after convincing my mother that if she bought me a second pair I will continue topping my class, she bought my story and I earned my self another blouse and come end term I gave my mother another impressive school report.

As the rains are slowly going away we are seeing the emerging fashion wear for the spring; the floral patterns which bring the joy in the fashion world by returning us to a more festive color palette.

Usually the beginning of any weather season is marked by the fashion world by having a relevant collection for that particular season.

Spring is marked by more colours and this time the colours are seen in floral designs.

In fact I spotted Mrs Obama in a floral top and Mrs biden also spotted some nice floral shoes.

Floral patterns come in all the colours that one can think of, but for a more stylish look, florals with a stark color contrast between the flowers and the background always look good.

As for the patterns, they should be chosen with a lot of care to be in proportion with the body size of the wearer.

Petite women should avoid big floral pattern on their clothes because they will make them look comically big and shorter.

Bigger women are luckier with these prints because both small and big patterns look great on them.
Those days when I first wore floral, the fabric used was cotton.

But now floral patterns can be found in different types of fabrics like silk and even polyester. A cotton floral top is good for a hot day and so is the maxi floral dress made of polyester.

Silk floral blouse is very flattering when worn in the evening because of the shinny effect that goes hand in hand with silk fabrics.

Now if you want to look girly and pretty, get yourself a cotton floral blouse and match it with a pair of skinny jeans and kitten heals or gladiator flats or for a more casual look a maxi floral dress might be just what you need to beat the weather with.

Whichever way you choose to wear the floral pattern remember not to over match floral from head to toe, or you risk looking like a blooming flower.

Currently I have three floral tops and all were bought here in Kigali. You could also get yourself one and be in sync with the season.
