Editor,

I read, with much enthusiasm, the story that appeared in yesterday’s issue of The New Times entitled "Agriculture budget increased by 5 percent”.

This is a good move since 90 percent of the population in the country depends on agriculture.

An increase from Rwf 64 to Rwf 67 billion will help Rwandans to raise food production levels.

In 2007, the Government adopted a Crop intensification program which aims at increasing agricultural productivity and ensuring food security and self-sufficiency. I hope this budget would consolidate the crop intensification program.

To make better use of arable land, the Government has adopted the land use consolidation policy to consolidate small pieces of family land with a view to increasing production.

I hope our economy will grow as we focus on crop intensification program which is currently being implemented.
