The women’s football team of Groupe Scolaire Remera Rukoma in Kamonyi District (Southern Rwanda) will for the first time participate in the Continental Cup tournament, a part of the International Youth Sports Festival.

The team was chosen by talent scouts to represent Rwanda in the festival which will take place in Cleveland, USA from June 30th to July 3rd, 2011.

The team—supported by SURF (Survivors Fund)—improved by securing a place in the Division 1 of the National Women’s Football League.

Jessica Simolow of SURF said she will do everything in her power to help the team excel in the tournament.

"I’m confident that they have the capacity to perform well, therefore they need all the support,” Simolow said.

She explains that at this time sponsorships for the team will be of great help since there is need to recruit coaches who are experienced with international tournaments.

Last year, Groupe Scolaire Remera Rukoma came second in place during the Federation of East African Secondary Schools Sports Association (FEASSSA).

Other teams in competition include Kenya, Sudan, Cameroon, Brazil, Colombia, Puerto Rico, Canada and USA, the host country.
