Palm Islands are the world's three largest man-made islands being built on the coast of the Dubai, in the United Arab Emirates. The Palm Islands has also been named 8th 'The Eighth Wonder of the World' even though they are still a work in progress.

The Palm Islands are an artificial archipelago on which major commercial and residential infrastructures will be constructed.

The islands are the Palm Jumeirah, the Palm Jebel Ali and the Palm Deira. The Palm Islands are constructed of sand dredged from the bottom of the Persian Gulf. The sand is sprayed by the dredging ships.

The Palm Jumeirah, the smallest of the three Palm Islands is built in the shape of a date palm tree and consists of a trunk, a crown with 17 fronds, and a surrounding crescent island that will form a water-breaker.

The Jumeirah Palm Island is primarily a retreat and residential area for living, relaxation, and leisure. It will contain themed boutique hotels, three types of villas.

The "Golden Mile", the strip of land located along the center of the trunk overlooking the canal, is set for completion in the first quarter of 2008. The tenants started moving in 30 April 2009.

The Palm Jebel Ali is the middle-sized island of the three Palm Islands. It is located on the Jebel Ali coastal area. The unique man-made palm-shaped island will consist of a trunk, a crown with 17 fronds, and a surrounding crescent island that will form a water-breaker.

The Jebel Ali Palm is more of an entertainment destination for both adults and children, which caters to both residents and tourists. The island will include six marinas, a 'Sea Village', a water theme park and water homes built on stilts between the fronds and the crescent

The Palm Deira is the largest of the three Palm Islands consists of a trunk, a crown with 41 fronds, and a surrounding crescent island that will form a water-breaker.

Each settlement when fully completed will be in the shape of a palm tree, topped with a crescent, and will have a large number of residential, leisure and entertainment centers.

Collectively, the island will support more than 60 luxury hotels, 4,000 exclusive residential villas (sale), 1,000 unique water homes (sale), 5,000 shoreline apartments (sale), marinas, water theme parks, restaurants, shopping malls, sports facilities, health spas, cinemas and various dive sites.

The islands are personal islands of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoom.
