KIGALI - An appeals hearing involving the former head of the Rwanda Utilities Regulatory Agency (RURA) was, yesterday, postponed.

The hearing is scheduled to continue on May 10.
The court heard that Colonel Deogene Mudenge is allegedly undergoing treatment.

Mudenge’s lawyer told court that his client’s medication has side effects that would not enable him to appear in court.
The lawyer presented a medical report to validate his case but the Judge ordered for more details.

"The doctor is a Rwandan and he is in the country. He is the right person to explain these things – it is difficult to interpret this medical report. A professional doctor can do it for us,” the president of Military High Court, Brig. Gen. Peter Bagabo, noted.

Mudenge’s woes started in July last year when he was arrested and charged with "gross indiscipline” after allegedly threatening a man in Gasabo with a firearm. He won the case in the first instance but the victim appealed.

Meanwhile, two other men; one from Gasabo and another from Bugesera, have similarly accused Mudenge of assault.
