FDLR launches attacks in Eastern DRC

Reports from the eastern part of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) indicate that attacks by the Democratic Forces for the Liberation of Rwanda) (FDLR militia and their Maï-Maï allies in the North Kivu Province have increased in recent weeks.According to Radio Okapi, a UN affiliated radio in the DRC, the militia alliance is taking advantage of the absence of Congolese government army (FARDC) which is redeploying.

Reports from the eastern part of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) indicate that attacks by the Democratic Forces for the Liberation of Rwanda) (FDLR militia and their Maï-Maï allies in the North Kivu Province have increased in recent weeks.
 
According to Radio Okapi, a UN affiliated radio in the DRC, the militia alliance is taking advantage of the absence of Congolese government army (FARDC) which is redeploying.

Homes have been vandalised and property looted in Lubero area, especially in Kanyabayonga, a town located over 150 KM north of the Provincial capital – Goma.

Radio Okapi said a local leader sent a distress call on Monday noting that his area of jurisdiction was threatened by militia attacks.
 
Dominique Bofombo, the administrator of Lubero territory, reported that North Kivu and part of South Kivu still had elements of the FDLR-Maï-Maï coalition.

The police in those areas are reportedly not able to contain the incursions.
