KIGALI - Mount Kenya University (MKU-Kigali) will soon start a new Diploma course in pharmacy and other science courses.

According to Prof. Tom Mukweri Nyamache, the Chief Academic Officer, the course will be introduced later this year.

He said that the university’s vision is to become a leading centre of academic excellence and a preferred destination for all those who aspire for an academically fulfilling experience.

"At the moment, we want to introduce this course in pharmacy while degree programmes in the same discipline will be introduced at a later stage,” noted Nyamache.

He added that one of their main objectives is to train scientists who would meet the demand of pharmacists, whom he said, are still few in the country.
"This is a good move by the university since few universities in the country offer it,” said Aline Umutoni a pharmacist at one of the drugstores in Kisementi.

MKU’s Kigali campus has only been offering a Masters’ programme in Business Administration.
