Woman tortures 15-year old over salary demands

NYAGATARE- Jonas Habimana, 15, is admitted at Nyagatare hospital in Nyagatare District nursing burns after a torturous ordeal at the hands of his employer for demanding salary.According to Habimana, his torment began after he asked Harriette Cyabitama for his salary. “She owed me a month’s salary of Rwf 15,000, and when I asked her for my money, she grabbed me with the help of other people, tied both my legs and arms with ropes,” Habimana narrated from his hospital bed in Nyagatare district.

NYAGATARE- Jonas Habimana, 15, is admitted at Nyagatare hospital in Nyagatare District nursing burns after a torturous ordeal at the hands of his employer for demanding salary.

According to Habimana, his torment began after he asked Harriette Cyabitama for his salary.

"She owed me a month’s salary of Rwf 15,000, and when I asked her for my money, she grabbed me with the help of other people, tied both my legs and arms with ropes,” Habimana narrated from his hospital bed in Nyagatare district.

"She then lit up a jerry can, undressed me and started burning me with the melting plastic, while accusing me of stealing Rwf250,000.” said Habimana from his hospital bed.

According to Police, the suspect is detained at Karangazi police post along with two local leaders, who are her alleged accomplices.

"One of her friends gagged my mouth and I could not even scream for help,” Habimana added.

"They then threw me in the river and left immediately. I swam and got out; then a motorist rescued me and brought me here,” he said.

Dr. Dieudonne Corneille, who is looking after the patient, said he expects Habimana to recover.

In Karangazi, where the suspect resides, angry residents called for the full force of the law.

"This is a serious human rights violation. It is a horrible act by someone who is a mother. We were very shocked,” an angry resident said.
