Editor,

I respond to an opinion that appeared in The NewTimes, April 23, regarding two women who were arrested in Rutsiro District for carrying out abortions.

Though I condemn Clemence Yezakuzwe and Chantal Nyirandengayobagira for being insensitive, I think the doctors who facilitate abortions should always be punished since the practice is illegal.

Stories involving young girls, especially students, who abort are numerous. Some die in the process.Though women are ultimately arrested and punished for the crime, their accomplices, who are the doctors are always let off the hook.

My suggestion is that once  arrested, women should be forced to identify the doctors, for punishment too. In my view, this would help reduce cases of abortions.
