Editor,

NoT so long ago, the acquisition of a passport was out of reach for most Rwandans, since one had to travel to Kigali to acquire it. However, this is no longer the case since the Immigration Department speeded up the process.

It used to take up to 8 weeks  to acquire a passport. Today, however, the process has become much easier, especially among the rural population.

Recently, it took my relative just five days to obtain the travel document. The Immigration Department says it intends to cut the number of days further, which is definitely a plus.

The reason why this has become unhindered is the fact that the process is now decentralised.  and residents from the countryside no longer need to travel to the Immigration head office.
