Serena Hotel donates to Genocide orphans

GASABO - The management of Kigali Serena Hotel yesterday donated an assortment of foodstuffs, clothes, and other laundry items worth Rwf 2.5m to Genocide orphans of Kimironko Sector, Gasabo District.The orphans organized under Abahumurizanya association, are from 189 families in Kimironko. The donated items included 200 Kgs of sugar, 200 Kgs of beans, 200 Kgs of rice, 200 Kgs of maize flour, 176 bed sheets, 200 towels, cooking oil, washing soaps among others.

GASABO - The management of Kigali Serena Hotel yesterday donated an assortment of foodstuffs, clothes, and other laundry items worth Rwf 2.5m to Genocide orphans of Kimironko Sector, Gasabo District.

The orphans organized under Abahumurizanya association, are from 189 families in Kimironko. The donated items included 200 Kgs of sugar, 200 Kgs of beans, 200 Kgs of rice, 200 Kgs of maize flour, 176 bed sheets, 200 towels, cooking oil, washing soaps among others.

Speaking at the event, Serena Hotel Human Resource Manager, Jolly Uwase said that the Hotel is committed to continuously providing assistance to Genocide orphans.

"We have been supporting these orphans since 2008 and our donation is an expression of our commitment to assist them,” she added.

Uwase stated that they also help the orphans by providing them with employment opportunities and that they currently have 11 genocide orphans from the association working as their employees.

"They lost their parents to the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi and supporting them like this, is very important to their lives,” she noted.

David Tuganimana, the president of the Association, thanked Serena Hotel for their continued support.

"Our lives have been changed by your assistance, we are very happy for your provision of basic needs and job opportunities as well,” he said.

The Head of IBUKA in Kimironko, Eric Mushimire, expressed gratitude to Serena for continuously supporting the orphans of the Genocide in Kimironko.

 "We thank you for your assistance, especially during this period of commemoration is of great importance and shows how much you care for these orphans,” he remarked.

Mushimire called upon the orphans to overcome their grief and think about better plans for their future.
Later in the day the management of Serena Hotel visited Ntarama Memorial Site, Bugesera district, in the Eastern Province to pay their respects to the victims of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi where they donated a cheque of Rwf 500,000 to site.

The staff toured the site before laying wreaths on the graves. Grief engulfed the staff, and scores among them could not hold back tears after listening to stories of how the victims were massacred.

Speaking at the memorial site, The Country Manager of Rwanda Serena Hotels, Charles Muia, said that it was very necessary to organize his team to visit the site so that they share the pain Rwandan people went through during the genocide.

"We only used to hear and don’t believe until we have seen with our naked eyes what happened, and this is very tragic and horrendous act, we should join hands and fight against Genocide,” he noted
