MUHANGA- Local Defense Forces (LDF) in Nyamabuye Sector, Muhanga District, on Thursday, donated foodstuffs worth over Rwf 150,000 to Kagitarama Genocide orphans.

Evariste Nkurunziza, the District LDF Commander, handed over the items, which will benefit over 120 orphans in 34 families.

Nkurunziza said that the donation is not only an act of sympathy but an indication of family ties and support from the LDF officials.

"This charity act comes from the hands of our group and it is a gesture of love and concern for the orphans who were affected by the Genocide” he said.

"We will make sure the orphans have full security and we’ll continue providing our support through community work (Umuganda) and other development programs organised by the orphans,” Nkurunziza said.

The beneficiaries hailed the local security officials for reaching out to their community, despite their meagre financial ability.

"It is very impressive to see that LDF officials can sacrifice their incomes to help orphans. This is a sign of hope and we cherish every support offered,” Celestin Ibambasi, the head of Kagitarama orphans, said.
