The Speaker of the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA), Abdirahin Haithar Abdi, has congratulated the incoming EAC Secretary General Dr Richard Sezibera upon his appointment and promised the Assembly’s full support. “We as EALA assure Dr. Sezibera of our full support and are confident that under his leadership, he shall drive the EAC with impetus, new energy and vigour,” Abdi said in a statement sent to The New Times yesterday.

He added that Sezibera’s wealth of experience as a diplomat, and in various capacities in the government of Rwanda, would greatly drive ahead the integration agenda.
"We are confident that such testimonials shall come in handy in assisting Dr. Sezibera to chart the integration process forward,” Abdi said.
"He joins the EAC at a time when the community has entered a crucial stage of implementation with a number of successes realised, the challenges notwithstanding,” he added.
Dr. Sezibera will officially take up his new duties upon expiry of the mandate of his predecessor, Juma Mwapachu, which ends on Sunday – April 24.
