"Behold, I was brought forth in iniquity and in sin my mother conceived me,” Ephesians 2:2.
Great Biblical figures were fervent sinners too.
Abraham, the grandfather of all believers lied, David who is said to be the ‘Man after God’s heart’ murdered and committed adultery, Samson was a strong man of God but had a weakness for women.
According to the Bible, humans lost the first battle in the Garden of Eden when Adam sinned. "Therefore, just as through one man sin entered the world, and death through sin and thus death spread to all men, because all have sinned,” Romans 5:12.
Alright, enough of the bible. Let’s get other realistic facts about humans as born-sinners. Ever realized how children get envious at times? At a certain age, kids get so self-centered. Signs are; kids intentionally don’t share toys, routine fights, desperately seeking attention….name it.
Literally, children are described as innocent, how then does jealousy come in?
The ultimate answer is, "Humans are born evil and selfish.” The famous novel, ‘Lord of flies’ by William Golding perfectly supports the facts above.
The book talks about a plane crash that only left male-children survivors, below the age of 13, at an isolated island. The boys started with seemingly little evils like jealous, competition, lying until they got to murder!
Anyway, who coaches an infant that stealing is bad, yet when they leak sugar, they will either deny or hide, because they know it’s a bad thing they have done.
Like cars are manufactured with engines to aid their travel, humans are created with a sense to tell good from bad, because of their sinful nature.
This is why people know how to react, depending on their guilt or approval; they deny when caught in the wrong yet they seek public approval in cases where they do right.
It is crappie to say that, "people are born pure but circumstances around change them.” If a laptop was originally created without a delete button, would any other button handle the delete duties?
The environment doesn’t create; it only brings out the true nature of humans. Humans are created with a percentage of good and bad in them. Often, the environment aids in developing either the bad or good side, though it’s a personal choice at the end of the day.
And sure, I do blame the human sinful nature for the massacres of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi. Look, humans were created exclusively with a sense of reasoning; they wouldn’t have killed for any other reason, apart from their selfish nature. Adolph Hitler never massacred Jews for bussiness; he was driven by evil and selfish human nature.
Selfish human nature accounts for weird and regrettable actions!
I only realized that when people get to their rightful senses, they often regret their actions, after recently interviewing a 30-year-old mother who almost killed her newly born baby! She came to her senses three hours after half-way burying the baby!
When questioned she plainly answered, "I don’t know what had gotten over me.” This is a common answer, people get sinful and mean, not because they want to but because it’s their nature.
There are exceptions of good people though they achieve this at a cost. God is one reason people repent, change and mimic his ways.
Integrity as well comes to those who choose to focus on their positive nature, ignoring the negative one. Analyzing the end results is a catalyst to goodness too; for instance, robbing a bank wouldn’t be reasonable if prison is the destination.
The inner battle between good and bad continues, BUT, it remains a fact that humans are born sinners. Nothing less, nothing much.
