KIGALI - Rwanda Demobilisation and Reintegration Commission (RDRC), is meeting with stakeholders from across the country, to discuss strategies aimed at strengthening cooperation between the commission and local authorities, of serving ex-combatants.

The three-day workshop that kicked off, Tuesday in Kigali, is also discussing the current position of ex-combatants’ contribution towards national development.

Speaking to The New Times, Brig Gen John Peter Bagabo, a commissioner in RDRC, highlighted the achievements of the commission and commended the contribution of the local authorities.

"We managed to identify ex-combatants with disabilities and have supported them in various ways, including giving them life skills, providing them with health insurance, organising them into cooperatives, as well as, building houses for the most vulnerable,” Bagabo said.

Elias Sagahutu, a retired Reserve Force Commander in Nyamasheke District, called upon his fellow ex-combatants to support the implementation of government programmes.

"Yes, I know there are some activities my colleagues may not be able to participate in; but where possible, let us join hands and work together,” Sagahutu said.
