Rwanda set for C’wealth Youth Games

RWANDA will be represented by four athletes at this year’s fourth edition of the Commonwealth Youth Games due to be held in the Isle of Man from September 7-13.

The Rwanda Olympic Committee’s acting Executive Director Serge Mwambali said yesterday that four athletes; one swimmer and three athletes will lead the country’s surge for silverware on Rwanda’s debut in the Games since its admission into the commonwealth family in December, 2009.

"The swimmer is Agahozo Alphonsine while the athletes are yet to be known,” said Mwambali.

The athletics federation has until the end of this week to name the athletes to complete accreditation procedures on time.

In swimming, Agahozo will be making her second international appearance following her debut in last year’s Commonwealth Games held in New Delhi where she clocked 33.81 in 50m freestyle.

The Bowl Stadium at the National Sports Centre, Douglas will stage the opening ceremony on September 8.
