KIGALI - The ongoing rehabilitation of the major roads in Kigali will end next month, City Council officials have announced.
The exercise had earlier been slated to end in September but China Road and Bridge Corporation (CRBC), a Chinese company contracted to carry out the works, is ahead of schedule.

"The main project of city road rehabilitation stretches for 36km and the contractors are expected to finalise their work sometime next month,” said Bruno Rangira, Kigali City Communications Director.

"There are also two other separate road construction projects to tarmac feeder roads to decongest the traffic jam around town. These projects are nearing completion as well,” he added.

Some of the main city roads being rehabilitated include the main airport boulevard that stretches from Kigali International Airport to the city centre among others.

Before the works started, the roads had a 2.5-3 centimetre layer, but the new roads are being be covered with two tarmac layers of nine centimeters, giving them a minimum life span of 20 years.
