Rachel’s Ramblings: Live for today

Many times we sit down and wonder what our lives would be like had we chosen a different path.

As a teenager you probably had to choose between your High School sweetheart and your great plans for college. You had to leave him because you were going overseas to pursue the dreams you always had.

As much as you loved him, you couldn’t put your plans on hold but promised to come back one day and live happily ever after. Sadly, that never happened.

You finished school, got a great job and later got married to another man.

All this happened so fast that you forgot about that boy with the dimples you loved so much at seventeen, the one you were positive you would get married to someday!

When you finally take a trip down memory lane, you imagine what could have been had you stayed and married this boy. You imagine your life with him and what you’d be doing.

You imagine how many kids you’d have and what they’d look like. Much as you’re happy with your life, you can’t help but wonder. You even imagine what his life is like, if he is married, has kids and is happy.

If your life turned out to be completely different than you had imagined, then chances are that you’ll be regretting the choices you have made during the course of your life and are probably wishing you had taken a different route.

But why should it be like that? If it wasn’t meant to be then I can assure you it won’t happen because everything happens for a reason.

Good or bad, we cannot spend our lives dotting on the past. We must learn to live for the moment, to make every second count. No regrets and no what if’s!

Frankly speaking it will only depress you. Work on what you have and make it better than what you think you lost or missed out.

I heard a woman once say that she had no regrets in life and that everything she’d done in life, good or bad had happened because it was meant to happen. I thought it was literally impossible.

Today, more than ever, I believe it was written and that our lives are already planned for us so it makes no sense for me to wonder what could have been.

As humans we can only try to live without regret and make sure that the choices we make in the future will help us avoid mistakes.
