A team of medical specialists, from Kabgayi Hospital, yesterday, started a  week long  free optical treatment to residents in Gakenke District, which will be conducted in 12 health centres.

According to Roger Mulindangabo, an optician, eye related problems result from poor eye care and failure to seek medical attention on time.

"Many residents do not know that eye infections are indeed curable. They fail to come for treatment by attributing their sight problems to age or witchcraft. That being the case, people should be sensitised to access  treatment,’’ Mulindangabo said.

Speaking to the residents from Nemba Hospital, where residents gathered for their treatment, the district Mayor, Deo Nzamwita, challenged the residents to ensure hygiene and sanitation in their families.
