The local volleyball federation, (FRVB) will not introduce any new tournaments on the 2008 calendar.

The season officially rolls off with the national volleyball championship in March before winding up in September with the annual Carre’d’AS tournament.

Other events lined up for this season include the prestigious Coupe du Rwanda, Disparus national, Disparus International, Beach volleyball event  and the Rutsindura memorial tournament.

"The federation convened last Sunday and decided to stick to its regular events,” the source added.

Other issues discussed in Sunday’s meeting included the federation’s financial report for 2007 and the action plan for 2008. Meanwhile, on the international scene, Rwanda is expected to field a junior team to compete in the Men’s African Nations Youth Championship as well as the 13th edition of the men’s African Nations’ championship.

The first tournament is scheduled for August while the African Nations’ championship is slated for September.

"FRVB is aware of the 2008 CAVB (Confederation of African Volleyball) calendar and has already given thought to Rwanda being part of the junior tournaments,” Emmanuel Ndungutse, an official with FRVB said.
