‘Walk to Remember’ is aimed at raising awareness and commemorating the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi. Its goal is to encourage young people to actively fight against prejudice, intolerance and hatred in their own communities.

The first ‘Walk to Remember’ was organized by Peace and Love Proclaimers (PLP) in partnership with Aegis Students, on the May 16th, 2009 in Kigali, Rwanda.

This year thousands of participants gathered at the Ministry of Justice in Kimihura to listen to the Youth Minister, Protais Mitali who addressed the crowd prior to the walk.  The walk that started at the Ministry of Justice ended at Amahoro National Stadium in Remera.

While at the stadium, one hundred names were read and each name represented 100,000 people that died each day. Participants lit candles. Most of the participants were dressed in T-shirts and purple wrist bands branded ‘Walk to Remember’.

Several youth in across East Africa, USA, Canada, India and other African states, organized ‘Walk to Remember’ to commemorate their loved ones.
