Okapi is an elegant and luxurious hotel located in Kigali’s Central Business district at Muhima, walking into Hotel Okapi is not the most inspiring experience.

Why?  As you enter the Hotel, right in front of you is a sign notifying you that the hotel won’t be responsible for theft of your valuables if not declared at the reception, and another, informing children that they are not welcome if they are not accompanied by their parents.

The reception is on your left and a waiting room on the left. The bar and the eatery are right ahead. Okapi is spacious, with two middle size cocktail bars; it opens 24hrs a day, everyday of the week.

Okapi offers Chinese, Indian and local dishes, serves breakfast, lunch and super. The food is good; their vegetarian buffet goes for Rwf1, 500, with beef Rwf2, 000, and with fish Rwf2, 200.

A soft drink goes for Rwf500. With the excellent services and the clean atmosphere Okapi is probably one of the most pocket friendly hotels in Kigali.

On our visit, I ordered for boiled tilapia fillet with vegetable in red sauce and red wine. I parted Rwf7, 000. A colleague went for Chinese chicken with hot and sour sauce, which cost only Rwf4500 and surprisingly, it didn’t take forever for our orders.

They also have a wide range of Pizza’s, spaghetti bolognaise goes for Rwf3, 500. The service is some of the best in Kigali. The staffs are friendly and proficient.

-the staff; fast
-the bad points; apart from  the warning signs, I can’t think of any
-the good points; excellent services, cheap prices
-the crowd; big number of tourists and business travelers

-the toilet; sparkling clean
