GASABO - The Mayor of Gasabo District, Willy Ndizeye, has urged residents in the district to always strive to be self reliant and avoid dependency.

Ndizeye made the call, yesterday, at Gisozi Genocide Memorial Centre during a commemoration function for the district.

He castigated the international community for its failure to stop the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsis.

"We should always strive to develop our nation and stop the habit of foreign dependency because the international community did not help us at the time of need,” Ndizeye said.

He urged the youth to always be hard working, well-behaved citizens and fight against Genocide ideology and ethnic divisionism in their respective communities.

He further challenged them to render any support and always be close to survivors.

Gasabo District also donated Rwf 200,000 to Gisozi Genocide Memorial Centre.

District employees and residents participated in a Walk to Remember, which started at the Kigali Business Centre premises and ended at Gisozi.
