MUSANZE - Residents in Musanze District have contributed at least Rwf 3.5m to support vulnerable Genocide survivors.

The money was raised during discussion forums convened as part of the ongoing commemoration events.

"Supporting the bereaved families is embedded within the Rwandan culture. This is a time we have to be united and support Genocide survivors,” the district Mayor, Winifrida Mpembyemungu, said.

She was speaking after a meeting with Sector Executive Secretaries aimed at assessing the implementation of performance contracts. During the meeting, the Mayor, urged them to ensure regular evaluation of performance contracts and engage local communities in their implementation.

It emerged that houses constructed for vulnerable survivors, in 1998, especially for the widows, needed renovation.

Kampayana Parish, in Kinigi Sector contributed over Rwf700,000 to support the renovation of houses for the survivors.
