Rwandans living in New York and New Jersey, USA, on Sunday, converged to discuss challenges faced by survivors of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsis, as part of activities to mark the 17th commemoration of the Genocide.The event was organised by Miracle Corners of the World (MCW), a non-profit organisation based in New York, and Yvette Rugasaguhunga, a survivor and founder of the Yvette Rugasaguhunga Survivors’ Education Fund (YRSEF), in New York.

The event was organised by Miracle Corners of the World (MCW), a non-profit organisation based in New York, and Yvette Rugasaguhunga, a survivor and founder of the Yvette Rugasaguhunga Survivors’ Education Fund (YRSEF), in New York.
"It was a really successful and powerful one that we are very proud of,” said Robyn Deutsch, a member of YRSEF.
"Not only did the event honour and remember the over one million victims of the Genocide against the Tutsi, but it highlighted issues facing survivors in Rwanda and the Diaspora today,” Deutsch observed.
The topics discussed included the trans-generational trauma, effect of the Genocide on education, effects of rape and torture on women and children as well as social justice in Rwanda.
A short video about survivors entitled "Untold Stories" was screened.
