Last week, we had an achievements assembly. Different students were awarded for all kinds of achievements throughout the season. These included academic to music to sports, all the way to diligent and exemplary character and it was indeed one to admire.

It got me thinking of how wonderful it feels to earn success by simply and honestly doing your best at anything and I mean anything that does both you and the people around you proud. I also learnt that trying is the very first step; failing is a necessary step to tighten your grip and boost your turbo for the third and final step, success!

Our Deputy Principal once said, "aim for the sky because if you have to fall, you’ll fall on a mountain. You may aim for a mountain because if you have to fall, you’ll in the least, fall on a hill. But never aim for a hill because if you have to fall, it’ll be down in the valley!”

I know there’s not just one of you who are irresistibly in agreement with me so far. Do you have days when you feel like; ‘yesterday, today, tomorrow…is all the same, so what?’ Answered to that is; "No. yesterday, today, tomorrow, are three different things.” One is past, the other is the race your currently on, and the last is, you’re not promised.”

Or are you like some of us who usually say "whatever man, who cares?!” or say, "I don’t really need success, life is good, school is one of life’s troubles but I’ll get through” and of course the big one who’s first to say, "Achievements are for the small and desperate people of the world.” I’ll tell you one thing about these kinds of attitudes; they watch others pass them by, get bigger and more content.

What I’m trying to tell you is that your achievement goes only as far as your dreams go.

At the end of the day, it’s not just about making it to the top in whatever you have; rather it’s about putting your heart to every effort you make.

I told my friends that before you say you’re afraid to try or say success isn’t ‘your thing’ or discourage those who’ve made it, first get there and then you can witness to others.

I wish you great achievement!
