Mourners from various parts of the country have been flocking to the memorial site to pay homage to the fallen victims, as part of the activities to mark the 17th commemoration of the Genocide.
Shortly after laying wreaths on the mass graves, Justin Irakarama, who headed one of the visiting delegations from Musanze district condemned the killings.
"By honouring these fallen victims, we get to know more about the history and bravery they exhibited before being killed,” Irakarama observed.
He noted that it’s equally important for the general public to draw lessons from the horrible events of 1994 and advocate for the Genocide never to happen again.
Jean de Dieu Mucyo, the Executive Secretary of the National Commission against Genocide (CNLG), yesterday, confirmed that the memorial site will soon get a facelift.
"The study of the rehabilitation plan is complete and the implementation will kick off during the next financial year that begins this July,” Mucyo told The New Times.
