Gasigwa wins ITF/CAT money circuit

Rwanda’s tennis star Jean Claude Gasigwa beat fellow countryman Dieudonne Habiyambere to win the second ITF/CAT Money Circuit title within a space of seven days yesterday at Lugogo tennis courts, Kampala.

Rwanda’s tennis star Jean Claude Gasigwa beat fellow countryman Dieudonne Habiyambere to win the second ITF/CAT Money Circuit title within a space of seven days yesterday at Lugogo tennis courts, Kampala.

It was all Rwandan final between national second seed Gasigwa and rising star Habiyambere. Gasigwa won in straight sets 6-3 6-4 to bag $ 800(Frw 448000) in cash prize. Habiyambere earned $540(Frw. 300240) for the second spot finish.

Gasigwa had won the first leg held in Kigali last week after defeating Kenyan born Francis Rogoi in straight sets 6-2, 6-1.

In the semi-finals, Gasigwa beat Francis Logoi of Kenya in straight sets 6-4 6-3 while Habiyambere defeated Emmanuel Rukundo of Rwanda 4-6 6-2 6-3 respectively.

This is Gasigwa’s fourth ITF/Cat money circuit title after triumphant Burundi expedition in 2004 and 2006 in Sudan.

In the Men’s doubles final it was a repeat of the Kigali final a week ago as Gasigwa/ Noel Hakizimana was taking on Martin Dzuwa of Zimbabwe and Kenyan Logoi by press time.
