A role model can be a family member or a celebrity. Someone you never met in person can be a role model too.   Your role model doesn’t have to be a real person; it could be a character from a book.

The term role model generally means any ‘person who serves as an example’, whose behaviour is emulated by others.

Role models are important because they help us become the people we want to be and inspire us to make a difference in our lives.

When choosing a role model, it’s important to put a few factors into consideration.

Choose a person who is confident and believes in their abilities. Never select hypocrites because they pretend to be someone they are not, that kind of personality is not suitable.

A role model should be someone unique. They should make you feel good about being yourself, they shouldn’t make you compare yourself to them and wish you were prettier.

Some people would want to eat, dress, walk and talk like their role models. We are all unique in different ways.

Your role model should be someone who is living life the way you would like to live. For instance, if you want to be a famous novelist, your role model could be someone who has been successful in writing.

They should be dedicated to their job so that you can look up to for their accomplishments.

Let your role model be someone who has done  something you find admirable, such as saved lots of lives, helped people in need or discovered the cure for a disease.

A true role model is someone who possesses the qualities that have affected people in a way that makes you want to be a better person.

However, always have it in mind that you are not supposed to exactly act like your role model but just emulate them.  Some times you should know that role models are not immortal, they are also human and they make mistakes in life.
