Rwanda Meteorological Agency (RMA) will, today, celebrate the World Meteorology Day

According to a statement from the Ministry of Infrastructure, RMA offices will be open to the public as part of the celebrations, showcasing how weather forecasts are produced for TV bulletins.

The public will also learn about the service, and how various meteorological products can provide socio-economic benefits.

"Whatever people do, there are components of their business that are highly influenced by weather and climate elements.  Through being aware of these variables and their impact, people will be in a better position to plan managing their budgets and operations,” the statement reads.

It added that weather and climate services are tools that will play a crucial role in achieving the ambitions of the EDPRS and Vision 2020, which both tie in with Millennium Development Goals.

This year’s day will be celebrated under the theme; "Climate for You".

RMA plans to develop an early warning system for severe weather within the next five years.
