What’s the big deal with weddings?

Irrespective of the advantages that come with weddings, the expenses can never be undermined. So why do un-wealthy couple grind their teeth, take loans and borrow money in a bid to cough up the huge chunks of cash needed to spend on a one-day long wedding. Why not just sign a formal agreement to live happily together and procreate without the hustle and bustle of a wedding? This is word on the street about this hot topic. “I cannot be a wife to any man unless we have that wedding. The answer is very simple. No marriage will ever be recognized and respected by the public without having a wedding ceremony.” Jean Butera, Muscian

"I cannot be a wife to any man unless we have that wedding. The answer is very simple. No marriage will ever be recognized and respected by the public without
 having a wedding ceremony.”

Jean Butera, Muscian

"I prefer to have marriage before a wedding because it will give me enough time to plan for one of the best weddings ever seen. I do not mind about what others may say about us as long as my wife stands with me.”

Rameshi Nkusi, Kigali City Businessman.

"I am a devoted Christian and I strongly believe that at whatever expense, the only way one can get married is through the church. And for that case, I must wed before marriage.”

James Daale, Programme Cordinator, Rwanda Initiative for Sustainable Development (RISD)

"Personally, I believe in having a wedding before marriage as long as I can afford it. In other words, this wedding should not stress me but bring me and my wife happiness.”

Abraham Rumanzi, Rwanda Focus Reporter.

"These days, love and relationships are two different things. I cannot base on a mere relationship to inject all my cash for a wedding when I am not sure if this lady loves me. Wedding or not, I believe marriage is possible.”

Eric Muyiranyi, Private Sector
