Ideal interiors : Spruce your home décor by use of large mirrors

A family friend recently moved to the posh area of Nyarutarama and we went to visit them a few weeks ago. When I entered the house, it was not large by any means. But what amused me is the fact that they placed a very huge mirror on one side of the living room which reflects the entire house creating an illusion that the house is bigger than it really is.

L-R : Large decorative mirror ; Mirrored living room ; Bathroom Mirror Tutorial

A family friend recently moved to the posh area of Nyarutarama and we went to visit them a few weeks ago. When I entered the house, it was not large by any means.

But what amused me is the fact that they placed a very huge mirror on one side of the living room which reflects the entire house creating an illusion that the house is bigger than it really is.

Decorating the home with mirrors is a great way to add light to any room and it now become a norm for designers to use mirrors as part of décor.

The use of mirrors in the living has gained a wide spread because they can also make a room appear to be larger if they are placed in a strategic location in the house. Mirrors can be used for decorations or they can be used for a specific purpose. If mirrors with decorative frames are being used, it is important to match the frames with the current style of the room.

This means that they have to be the exact same color, just the same basic style so the frame and the rest of the decor in the room do not clash. Living rooms are a great space for installing a super-large mirror.

These mirrors serve as art pieces while also opening up the space with the big reflection of the room. They also create more light in the space because of their reflections.
Placing a large mirror in a small room will make the room appear to be larger.

With this in mind, placing mirrors on the ceiling can make the room appear taller as well. Since mirrors reflect light, placing a few of them in the entranceway of the home is a great way to greet visitors. People will be greeted in a bright, cheerful manner. If you want to work with the mirror, then it should be placed behind an item that needs illuminations, things like candles and lamps are good choices.

If one has interesting painting or pictures and want to show them off, then a mirror placed strategically on the opposite wall can also reflect paintings for an interesting effect.

To homes with fire places, adding a mirror over a fireplace mantel will make the room seem larger and any decorative items on the fireplace mantel will reflect off the mirror.
Mirrors come in all shapes and sizes and can brighten up virtually any area of the home.

Any empty space on the wall can be filled with a mirror or cluster of mirrors that with trial and error are sure to end up looking great. Mirrors have been a strong design element ever since they were first invented.

Beyond these functional purposes, mirrors also add beauty and elegance to home décor. Even if a mirror doesn’t take up the entire living room, it can play a key part in the design. The metalwork around the mirror is artistic and interesting.

It adds to the motif of the room without taking away from the interesting artwork and pillows that are also attention-getters here.

Even though mirrors were created as a cosmetic tool for women to look themselves into when applying makeup and all, it has now become a tool of art and décor in many homes today. In fact architects and designers alike are all incorporating mirrors in all their housing designs today. To choose mirrors for home design, you have to look at the size, shape and style of the mirror.

You also have to carefully consider placement. And it wouldn’t hurt to think about places where multiple mirrors may be appropriate in your place. Done correctly, mirrors become more than something that you merely look into but something that you actually want to look at!
