APR 77-75 REG

Point guard Wilson Nshobozwabyosenumukiza put in a man of the match display as his APR side beat defending champions Rwanda Energy Group (REG) 77-75 to bring their eight-game unbeaten run to an end during Friday night league clash held at Lycee de Kigali gymnasium.

The 1.83m man dropped 20 points, eight rebounds and four assists – his greatest performance so far in the APR colors.

The game was closely contested from the beginning, with APR edging REG in the first two quarters, 19-17 and 18-17 respectively.

Back in the second half, Dean Murray’s men attempted to make a come-back, winning the third quarter 21-16, but REG fended off their efforts by claiming the last quarter 24-20 which were not enough to force overtime against a APR who played a defensive game in the last seconds of the quarter.

REG’s top performers on the night include American point guard Adonis Filer who scored a game-high 25 points and added nine rebounds and six assists, while his team mates Cleveland Thomas Jr and Pitchou Manga added 19 and 14 points, respectively.

Murray thought new signings Adonis and Cleveland would help his side overcome APR but the military side proved too tough to beat.

On an important note, APR’s new center Bush Wamukota also had a good game, scoring 18 points, while teammate Dan Manzi added 12 points.

The result leaves REG in second position with 17 points, while APR is third with 15 points.

APR return to action on Saturday, February 18, ahead of their game against Orion at the Lycee de Kigali gymnasium.
