What women say about Rwanda’s Maternity Insurance

Florence Zawadi, Cashier at Rwanda Commercial Bank (BCR) “The most important aspect is to reinstate the maternity leave from the current one and half months to three months. In most cases women are not strong enough to strain at work within a few months especially if they underwent caesarian birth. However, the Maternity Insurance scheme will greatly help those that are terminated from their jobs just because they are pregnant.”

Felicity Rwemalika, Administrator at Association of Kigali Women in Sports (AKWOS)

"The Maternity Insurance scheme will definitely be of great help to the working class women. They will have ample time to breastfeed their children.”

Devota Uwamahoro

"I’m very happy because the policy will help to reduce possible discrimination against female employees when applying for jobs.”
