When things get too tough, most teens will take off.

I met Rose in my first year of high school, she was drop-dead beautiful and elegant. She was confident and very stubborn but she maintained a down-to-earth character and innocent look.

Rose was multi-blessed. On top of her well-favoured looks and likeable character, she was exceedingly brilliant.

She always topped our class and was good in other school activities like debates, writing competitions and she played all genres of sports like tennis, badminton, netball and basketball .This is how she became my heroine and it wasn’t long before we became an item.

Soon our love for each other began to blossom because she loved me unconditionally. I wasn’t so good in class and barely had any talent in any other field and she still loved me. I strived so hard to return her love, for instance; I always sided with her in arguments or conflicts even when she was clearly wrong. One time I served a punishment on her behalf, all in the name of love.

In short, we became inseparable. Ours was a union of two hearts. We created a world of vast blue skies, expansive green fields and cool winds around us. I would walk through the hottest desert sand just to get by her side, my point is; Rose was heaven sent.

However, one fateful morning in our fourth year at school, I got the news at my hostel that Rose had been found pregnant during one of the routine pregnant tests (I had no doubt I the pregnancy was mine). Her no-nonsense mother had been immediately informed and rumors were also doing the rounds that, Police had launched a witch-hunt for me. I had no option but to flee and change schools.

Several months later, I heard that Rose dropped out of school and that she had given birth. One evening she sent me a text message that read "Though you tore my world apart and rejected me, I forgave you and I wish you well in whatever you are doing.”

I shuddered after reading this SM; tears began streaming down my face unchecked. I felt like I had forsaken her love and abused her innocence. I only pray that Rose finds room in her heart and genuinely forgives me, for not being true to her and ruining her future. This will probably help me nurse this guilty conscience.
