Moses Nyamurangwa’s 84th minute equalizer silenced AS Kigali as Sunrise FC who came from behind twice to snatch a point in a pulsating 2-2 draw in a Rwanda Premier League week 20 game held at Bugesera Stadium in Nyamata on Thursday.

It was an encounter that AS Kigali hugely dominated but the tactical game plan of Sunrise FC interim coach Evariste Ntamugabumwe worked to perfection as his men were clinical in the few chances that they managed.

Sunrise could have got a winning penalty in the 94th minute but the referee waved play on although Yafesi Mubiru seemed to have been tripped inside the AS Kigali 18-yard box.

The game started brightly with AS Kigali fully in control. It took the Citizens just six minutes to open the scoring through a brilliant effort from midfielder Denis Rukundo.

Andre Casa Mbungo’s men piled incessant pressure on the visitors with Jibrine Akuki Abubakar being given the license to serve as the playmaker.

The home side’s attack looked ferocious with Shaban Hussein and Jacques Tuyisenge but Sunrise FC were well-organized at the back as they held their might.

The Nyagatare-based side caught AS Kigali off guard and Samson Babuwa who was playing behind lone ranger Yafesi Mubiru restored parity for the visitors with a cool finish in the 44th minute to force a draw going into the half time break.

AS Kigali, who were dominant in the first half, started the second half with the same firepower as they pinned Sunrise FC to their own half until top scorer Shaban Hussein restored the lead with a great strike in the 61st minute.

The likes of Moise Nyarugabo became the focal point of the AS Kigali play as they decided to use the wings. They had no more space in midfield with Moses Nyamurangwa nullifying Jibrine Akuki and Olivier Niyonzima.
