The First Lady, Jeannette Kagame on Wednesday, February 15, received Professor Senait Fisseha , the Director of Global Programs at the Susan Thompson Buffett Foundation, a meeting that attracted discussions related to sustainable development of communities.

In 2020, Rwanda signed a host agreement allowing for the foundation to establish its continental headquarters in Kigali.

Professor Fisseha, who doubles as the Chief Advisor to the Director General of the World Health Organization (WHO), visited Kigali alongside Randi Clark, who leads organizational effectiveness and people operations at the foundation.

"They discussed best practices to contribute to the sustainable development of our communities, for healthy living,” the First Lady's office said in a tweet.

The foundation says it is focused on promoting the health of women and girls throughout the world, an initiative also embraced by the Imbuto Foundation.

Its headquarters are expected to support governments in their efforts to build health systems by aligning funding with the priorities of the governments of the countries in which they work.

Rwanda is one of the countries where the foundation is pursuing this work in close coordination with the Ministry of Health, among other partners.

Also to prioritize it to increase investment in local organisations, and according to the foundation’s strategy, specific opportunities will be identified to increase the support of local organizations and institutions.

Meanwhile, the Foundation will build the next generation of global south champions for the health of women and girls.

This focus reflects the belief that these priorities are the most likely to drive lasting change in their communities and countries.
