Most men think about Valentine’s Day as nothing more than an artificial excuse for women to get them on target. Women, on the other hand actually take Valentine’s Day seriously, believing it to be a celebration of love and intimacy. Here are some interesting facts about that day that "forces "people to express their "love”.

10. Women Spend less than men

Of course women spend much less than men. They are more on the receiving end, for starters. And the men feel there is a need to outdo themselves trying to impress the ladies. Interesting, considering that men don’t even think the day is important…

9. Condom Sales Are Highest on Valentine’s Day

Yeah, that is true. There is a sudden spike in condom sales around Valentine’s Day. Maybe it’s because people suddenly remember safe sex is wise, but also probably because there is a higher chance of getting laid... not with all that love floating  in the air, anyway!

8. March and Pregnancy Tests go Hand in Hand

This follows naturally from number nine. Not all those who buy condoms get a chance to use them, and not all those who get a chance to use them actually use them. In March, there are a lot of uncertain women, anxious because they think the activities of the previous month might born results.  It is in the month following Valentine’s Day that the consequences of all those romantic couplings are realized.

7. Florists Make A Killing around Valentine’s Day

They run a business, don’t they? What better time to hike prices and still ensure high sales than Valentines? Every Tom in town is buying flowers, even those who are going to be bounced with their flowers. Men will dole out any amount for a bunch of flowers; after all, every one else is buying flowers for their women!

6. Many people’s valentines are relatives.

True, a valentine can be anyone or anything you want. Most people think of valentines as their romantic partners, but also there are relatives, friends, workmates, even pets! So, if she rejects your flowers, don’t waste them, give them to your sis. Or to your dog!

5. Some people are desperate to save face.

At least 3 million women send themselves flowers on Valentine’s, just to save face. If it so important to you to pretend someone out there actually is thinking about you, send yourselves the flowers. After all, your valentine can be any one... even you yourself! You, my friend, can be your own valentine!

4. Romance is Only a Tiny Part Valentine’s Day

There is so much expectation and anticipation for romance that when the day finally comes round, it is actually an anti-climax. Most people only end up getting flowers or cards, and heading back home to a lonely dinner. And those who get lucky, many have claimed it is rather a disappointment! But of course it is just like any other day, what else did you expect? So much for a lover’s day!

3. Women Prefer buying Cards to Flowers

The cards are cheaper than flowers, true, especially on Valentine’s. In addition, most men are uncomfortable around flowers. I mean, what does a guy do with a bunch of flowers? At least, some women have figured this out, and now they buy cards instead of flowers for their guys. I admit it is also a bit embarrassing for me to be given flowers!

2. Flowers Are a Man’s Best Friend

The flowers say what you can’t express. They also cover up for all your past mistakes and those you are going to make in the future. In other words, you can hardly go wrong with flowers. 99% of women love flowers, and 99% of men are clueless about buying presents. That leaves men with one option; flowers. Just buy her a bunch of flowers; it will make you seem cultured, even when you have no idea about what you are doing.

1. It is a day of heartaches and disappointments.

In my opinion, this day is not good for lovers, especially those who have a thing or two to hide. If you have more than one girl, Valentines is the best time to get caught. And if you are clueless about how to be romantic and stuff, she will figure it out too because your obvious lack of "flow”  will stand out. Coupled with the over-expectations, this day usually leave many relationships broken, and many more in a state of doubt about the future.
