Eat what you know
You may try to impress your mate by ordering mysterious food, which might cause both of you grumbling stomachs and ruin the whole night. My advice is, order for that huge brochette and "kabenzi” plus some Fantas or wines and dine away.
Send the gift to work
This might not be a good idea if the gift is, uhmm, not that nice (like saucepans or cups). But if it’s something nice like a rose or bottle of wine, send it to your mate’s workplace or school (for the former). This will assuredly make a statement in front of her colleagues.
