The BDO Global CEO Partner, Pat Kramer, visited Rwanda on February 8, to strengthen the company’s work and relations with clients in the country as businesses continue to recover from the pandemic.
BDO is an international network of audit, tax, and advisory services firms, with a regional office in Rwanda.

During his official visit, Kramer was flanked with a delegation including BDO EMEA region (Europe, the Middle East & Africa), CEO, Trond Morten, Global Head of Audit, Daphna Smucker, and EMEA Head of Quality Assurance, Thingle Pather.
Kramer said that it is the company’s role to advise their clients on how to better position themselves post-recovery in the face of different economic uncertainties around the world such as recession events occurring in some countries, high interest rates, and inflation, among others.
Emmanuel Habineza, Managing Partner of BDO East Africa, Rwanda, said that being within one global network that uses the same tools and training platforms makes it easy to satisfy investors coming to Rwanda.
"Over the past decades, Rwanda’s economy is gradually opening to international investors which means that if they are able to get the same quality of services as that of their home country, it is a win-win situation for investment.
The firm has 1870 offices in 160 countries across the globe.
Developing human capital
Global Head of Audit, Smucker, said that Rwanda has more than enough human capital but the issue remains on capacity building to make them relevant to the market.
"I understand there is excess capacity if students graduating out of universities, so, it’s about training those resources and supporting them with global expertise to upscale them on the market,” she added.
The Global CEO and his delegation also visited the Kigali Genocide Memorial to learn the history of Rwanda and laid wreath to pay tribute to victims of the 1994 Genocide against Tutsi.
Among various advisory services offered by BDO Rwanda, it has been conducting workshops with business players to raise awareness on new tax law and made contributing suggestions to the government for revising tax laws to spur economic growth in the country.
