The local volleyball governing body, FRVB has switched its focus to the 2012 Olympic Games in London.

This comes days after the men’s national volleyball team failed to snatch the lone African slot in Beijing after a dreadful show in the qualifiers that were staged in South Africa.  Before the team’s departure, Gerard Jouault (coach) had insinuated that the qualifiers would give Rwanda exposure to tough matches.

"We want to win, but this is also an opportunity for players to have international exposure,” Jouault reckoned. Jouault also infused hope in the home fans although results prove otherwise.

Grouped alongside Algeria, Cameroon, Nigeria and hosts South Africa, Rwanda finished bottom of the group after failing to win a single game. After the team’s return, the federation’s executive secretary Gertrude Kubwimana said that the federation is already focusing on the London Olympic Games.

Rwanda’s poor show means that there is a lot to be done.
Last year, Rwanda failed to qualify for the All Africa Games after an awful performance in the qualifiers that were staged in Sudan.
