Kings College London, has pledged continuous support to the newly established Rwanda Peace Academy (RPA) that is based at the Rwanda Military Academy, Nyakinama in the Northern Province.

The commitment was made by Dr. Funmi Olonisakin, the Director of Conflict, Security and Development Group at the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR), at Kings College London, after paying a courtesy call on the Minister of Defence, James Kabarebe.

"The major focus of the meeting was how to begin to facilitate the work of the Rwandan military academy as well as Rwandan peace academy in a way that we can build a critical mass in terms of capacity to help develop the training programme of the institution,” Dr. Olonisakin said.

"Kings College London has a range of courses in the field of international peace and security, war and peace studies that can be of benefit to the Rwanda Military Academy. So, it should be possible to put a package together in collaboration with UNITAR and Kings College London.”
Dr. Olonisakin added that short courses may be introduced for Rwanda Defence Force officers at the academy without them having to go out of the country for long periods.

"We hope that the products of research and training can be placed in journals within Rwanda and in international journals as well – I certainly think that the rest of the world has so much to learn from Rwanda.”
