IT’S THE SEASON TO ENJOY HEALTHY MANGOES

Every where I have gone for the last two months I have seen mangoes in plenty. Long gone are the days when I used to send for mangoes all the way from Mombasa. Last weekend, I watched my son and nephew devour mangoes one each and I remembered the good old days, when I was growing up in the coastal town of Mombasa.

Mangoes

Every where I have gone for the last two months I have seen mangoes in plenty. Long gone are the days when I used to send for mangoes all the way from Mombasa. Last weekend, I watched my son and nephew devour mangoes one each and I remembered the good old days, when I was growing up in the coastal town of Mombasa.

Mangoes were in plenty and we used to eat mangoes in different ways. We could eat as they are, make some mango juice, or cut raw mangoes in slices and sun dry them, then two days later make some mango delicacy known as Achari, or even make some pepper chutney with mango! Whichever way you chose, mangoes will never disappoint, no wonder mangoes are known as the king of fruits.

Mangoes are very sweet and even though I am not a fruity person- I do like mangoes. Mangoes are regarded as a very rich fruit and a valuable item of diet. They are rich in amino acids, vitamin C and E, flavanoids, beta carotene, niacin, calcium, iron, magnesium and potassium. They are over one thousand different varieties of mango throughout the world, but all have the same nutrients and health benefits.

These are some health benefits of eating mangoes;
High in iron Mango is a fruit that is very high in iron. Women, especially, need to increase the amount of iron that they consume due to the large amounts that they lose during menstruation. Expectant mothers also need to think about increasing the amount of iron that they consume. People with an iron deficiency, which is called anemia, would also benefit from the high amount of iron offered in mango.

Benefits to skin

Mango is effective in relieving clogged pores of the skin. What this means is that people who suffer from acne, which is caused by clogged pores, will benefit from mango. Just remove the mango pulp and apply it on your skin for about 10 minutes before washing it. Eating mango regularly makes the complexion fair and the skin soft and shining.
Eye health:

One cup of sliced mangoes supplies 25 percent of the needed daily value of Vitamin A which promotes good eyesight. Eating mangoes regularly prevents night blindness, refractive errors, and dryness of the eyes, softening of the cornea, itching and burning in the eyes
Helps in digestion

Mangoes contain digestive enzymes that help break down proteins and aid digestion. It is also valuable to combat acidity and poor digestion because of an enzyme found in the fruit which soothes the stomach. Due to the high amounts of fiber found in mango, it can be helpful in keeping you regular, thereby helping or preventing constipation.

Anti Cancer

Like many other fruits, mango is high in antioxidants. Antioxidants are known to benefit the body in so many different ways. By incorporating mangos into your diet, you will be able to ward off cancer and fight against heart disease. People with high cholesterol and blood pressure may be able to lower their levels by eating foods that are rich in antioxidants on a regular basis.

Mango Can Boost Sex Life

Vitamin E is known to be one of the most beneficial vitamins for boosting the sex life. The main reason is because it works to regulate the body’s sex hormones. Although it is hard to imagine mango being an aphrodisiac, many people believe that this is a great fruit to eat if you want to enhance your sex drive

Mangoes are expensive, but you now know why at least you should be eating mangoes even it is just once a week. In fact mangoes are so filling, that one can opt to take a mango fruit in the morning instead of the usual heavy breakfast that most of us prefer, because mangoes in your daily diet can benefit your health more than your usual non fiber diet.

Mangoes can be eaten both raw and ripe. Mangoes are a good source of vitamins and minerals essential for the human body. Always have mangoes in your daily diet as this can benefit your health more than you usual non fiber diet.
