When Willow Smith (born October 31, 2000), first entered the music scene with her debut song, ‘Whip My Hair,’ no one could have predicted the 10-year-old would become an overnight sensation.
As the daughter of Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith, the tiny songstress is no stranger to the limelight. Her brother Jaden starred in the remake of the classic film ‘The Karate Kid’ this past summer.
Willow’s new found role as a performer is a natural fit in her talented family.
She made her acting debut in 2007 in the film I Am Legend and later appeared in Kit Kittredge: An American Girl alongside Abigail Breslin. She received a Young Artist Award for her performance.
Apart from her acting she launched a music career in the fall of 2010 with the release of her single «Whip My Hair» and signing to Jay-Z’s record label Roc Nation.
The single peaked at number 11 on the Billboard Hot 100, making her one of the youngest solo artists in history to do so.
And still, nepotism had nothing to do with the wildfire internet and radio takeover ‘Whip My Hair’ staged. It was all about attitude.
«Whipping your hair is kind of the thing where you do it and people are like, ‘Yeah, that’s pretty cool, Willow.’ I’m like, ‘Thanks ... but it’s supposed to make you scared!’» Smith explained.
